Mias calls for better regulation of estate agents

Working in several agencies in London, the team uncovered some shocking methods of working, including misleading inspectors about property prices and - in the case of Foxtons - working closely with the mortgage advisers to Alexander Hall to discuss potential buyers of budgets without the prior consent, In order to get as much money from them as possible (In response to reports of the Whistleblower programme, Foxtons said: " Foxtons Limited and Limited Alexander Hall proud of the professionalism and transparency of their respective businesses and have the utmost respect for the needs of its clients and will always act in the best interests of customers. "). Commenting, Alistair Good, Managing Director of MIAS mortgage brokers UK, said: " MIAS condemns such behaviour and has welcomed the programme to highlight the need for the industry to be regulated. " He added: " While we realize that only a minority of the estate agents and brokers behave in this manner, the program reflects the experiences of some of our customers ". Commenting, Roger Milbourn, Director of MIAS said: We believe that the Office of Fair Trading code of practice is insufficient to deter such dirty tricks, which is a great industry unregulated. To ensure that customers are fairly treated in this high-pressure sales environment, we urge the industry to introduce a qualification for real estate agents, as is the case in the United States. " Conclusion, Roger Milbourn said: " Seeing this impressive agenda, but it was unable to reach the same conclusion as the BBC reporter - that real estate agents should be required to have a title that is not " strong suit.
